Eating raw sprouts is one of the most powerful habits that I recommend as a holistic coach to my clients for reversing their biological age, lose weight, improve their physical appearance and extend their healthspan. Because the sprouting process increases nutrient levels, what makes them richer in protein, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, and vitamins C and K than un-sprouted plants, seeds, or ripe vegetables.
Sprouts are seeds that have germinated and become very young plants, they are 100 times richer in enzymes than any unprocessed veggies and fruits what makes your body assimilate their nutrients pretty well. And they are very easy to grow if you keep an orgone generator near, which accelerates the germination and allows you to have them ready to eat sooner.
So, I'm going to talk next about the benefits of eating sprouts which you can grow in your kitchen with ease to introduce them in your dishes. What are sprouts ?
Sprouts are the premature growth of a plant from a germinated seed. They are baby plants only a few days old whose seeds have just germinated and are beginning to develop stems and leaves only a couple of inches long. Comparing with their mature counterparts, sprouts are usually richer in health-promoting phytochemicals.
Their nutritional value differs for each species, but they are generally rich in many essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. They are high in vitamin K, lots of B vitamins like niacin, riboflavin, thiamine, folic acid, and pantothenic acid, as well as vitamin C and vitamin A. Sprouts also contain lower levels of antinutrients, making it easier for your body to absorb all the nutrients they contain.
Which sprouts can be eaten raw ?
Most sprouts can be eaten raw like Alfalfa, Broccoli sprouts, Mung beans sprouts, Red clover sprouts, Radish sprouts, Onion sprouts, or Wheatgrass. All they are full of immune-boosting enzymes, cancer-fighting agents, and host important vitamins and minerals. But the most beneficial sprouts for reversing your biological age are Brussels and broccoli sprouts and it is best to eat them raw, otherwise, their enzymes and nutrients are reduced after cooking.
Many people suggest eating them cooked to kill bacteria because sprouts require warm and humid conditions to grow, which is also ideal for bacterial pathogens such as Salmonella and E. coli. But I consider it safe to consume them raw if you grow your own sprouts in a clean environment and garlic, honey, ginger, green tea, oregano, onions, cinnamon, or manuka honey are part of your diet. Because they are very powerful natural antibiotics.
Consuming contaminated raw sprouts can cause foodborne illness, especially in children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. If food poisoning occurs, symptoms can appear 12 to 72 hours after ingesting the sprouts and can include diarrhea, stomach cramps, and vomiting, but these symptoms are rarely life-threatening.
Why sprouts can be a great anti-aging tool ?
By eating sprouts, you give your body the proper tools to repair and keep all organs working well due to their high nutritional content and bioavailability, which is very important because it’s still possible to consume foods rich in nutrients that cannot be utilized by your body due to anti-nutrients. Which makes nutrients less bioavailable, and sprouting disables them. For example, rice contains phytic acid, which inhibits mineral absorption.
Phytic acid is a substance found in many plant-based foods. This acid is the primary way phosphorus is stored in many plants, including beans, seeds, and nuts. When phytic acid is consumed, it binds to other minerals to create phytates. Because you don't have any enzymes that can break phytates down, their nutrients cannot be absorbed into your body.
Phytate, the salt of phytic acid in grains, legumes, and nuts/seeds binds with zinc, iron, and calcium in the GI tract, making them inaccessible but by sprouting the vegetables and seed phytate is greatly reduced what makes the nutrients from the sprouts very easy to assimilate. Further, sprouting can inactivate carcinogens found in grains.
Anti-nutrients make nutrients less bioavailable, and sprouting can disable them. Once anti-nutrients are degraded with proper pre-treatment of food, legumes and grains become excellent sources of nutrients that we can utilize. But of all the sprouts, the most beneficial for anti-aging purposes are broccoli due to their high sulforaphane content.
Sulforaphane is a compound that I recommend consuming by eating broccoli sprouts and not taking supplements. This is because it is contained in large quantities, it's easy to assimilate by eating them and they contain other nutrients that you need to keep your body working properly. In my opinion, it is better to invest your money buying other phytonutrients like Curcumin + Resveratrol which are more difficult to introduce in your body throught your diet.
Broccoli sprouts are some of the best foods to slow aging
The cruciferous vegetable family—broccoli, broccoli sprouts, Brussels sprouts, etc.—contain a critical compound, called sulforaphanes, that potently activates the NRF2 pathway which controls over 200 genes responsible for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant processes. When this pathway is activated, the body suppresses inflammation, activates detoxification, and promotes antioxidants to exert their effects.
Broccoli sprouts contain 50-100 times the amount of sulforaphanes than mature broccoli!
Broccoli sprouts are the food with higher sulforaphane content but also brussels sprouts. On the other hand, when the madure broccoli is heated sulforaphane is reduced and other nutrients what make your vegetables less nutritious as well as by cooking them with microwave ovens. Some foods are better to eat raw and others to cook like tomatoes that increase the amount of lycopene that your body can assimilate after heating them.
That's why having a holistic coach can be a great investment because you may think you're eating nutritious food because you're eating broccoli, but after boiling it the vegetable loses so much of your cancer-fighting antioxidants and the microwaved broccoli lost 74% to 97% of three key antioxidants. Therefore, foods with low nutritional content are not only fast or ultra-processed foods but also certain vegetables that are depleted in their nutrients after preparing them to eat.
