Genomic instability is the main causal factor of aging and many external factors beyond our control accelerate it, such as all those pollutants in the environment and carcinogenic foods. It is important to regularly ingest the nutrients that have been proven to protect and repair DNA damage, what reduces cell mutations to keep yourself young, healthy and beautiful.
Aging is deterioration of the organism and there are common denominators of aging called Hallmarks of aging. These hallmarks are: genomic instability, telomere attrition, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, deregulated nutrient sensing, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell exhaustion, and altered intercellular communication. But we are in a world where most people ignore how harmful are those products, even some doctors. So they are everywhere and often in restaurants we order something without knowing what is included in the ingredients. So consuming the next nutrients can be important to avoid being affected.
I'm going to talk about three compounds from plants that can be taken in supplementation that have been proven to protect DNA from damage, which correlates closely with how long you will live. Consuming these supplements can be helpful when you go to a restaurant, or when you eat those cancer-causing grilled foods or microwave popcorn as well when you drink alcohol. But I'll start by talking about something very complex called genomic instability.
What is Genomic Instability ?
Genomic Instability is when there is accumulation of DNA damage that cause tissues and body processes become dysfunctional, as result the body deteriorates. When cells divide, they replicate the DNA and sometimes they make mistakes, the DNA is not replicated correctly and a mutation occurs. The content and information of the genome is changed. This happens every day but the body has processes to fix the problem with success.
As we age, the body is less successful at repairing those mistakes and the cells are replicated with errors in the DNA and the accumulation of these cells with the wrong transcription of the DNA is called genomic instability. Those cells are mutations and your body have 3 processes to deal with them, Autophagy, Apoptosis, and Cycle Arrest.
Autophagy is when these damaged proteins inside the cell are broken down in amino acids and from them is to build up new proteins and the cell can continue living properly. But if the problem is not fixed and the cell continue with its malfunction the body program the cell death, what is called apoptosis. The cells it is killed and it is replaced from the stock of stem cells. Often cells avoid apoptosis, do not die and the body forces cell cycle arrest. Which is when the cell can not divide anymore and become senescent cell.
How to Prevent DNA Damage?
Detoxifying your body and avoiding dietary carcinogens is a good way to start. Canned foods can be replaced by foods packed in glass, hydrogenated oils by coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil that also have anti-aging properties. And reducing alcohol, ultra-processed and grilled foods is elemental to prevent DNA damage as well as consuming the next nutrients.
Xanthohumol, which is a natural hops-derived flavonoid compound that has been shown in clinical human studies to reduce DNA damage in cells. Chlorophyllin the water-soluble version of chlorophyll that have been recognized for their multi targeted capacity to reduce DNA. And Chlorella growth factor, an amazing nutrient complex found in the cell nucleus of chlorella that would help repair damaged genetic material in human cells, thereby protecting health and slowing the aging process.
