1 - Avoid smoking


For men under the age of 40, smoking is the biggest cause of erectile dysfunction. Scientists have found that men who successfully kick cigarettes can have thicker, more rigid erections and reached maximal arousal five times faster than smokers.


Impotence is often a result of poor arterial blood supply to the penis due to smoking cigarettes. That’s because maintaining an erection requires a healthy blood supply, and nicotine causes your blood vessels to contract, which causes the penis to shrink. The longer you’re a smoker, the more difficult it is to treat or reverse erectile dysfunction.

And the impacts of exercise can be roughly equivalent to taking something like Viagra. Exercise can clearly have other benefits on sexual health too, beyond just the erections (libido, mood, likely more).

A cause of Impotence could be excessive Estrogens in the body and xenoestrogens are a type of xenohormone that imitates estrogen. Avoiding drinking beverages in plastic bottles and canned food is a must, then consume products packed in glass bottles.


Endocrine disruptors are a category of chemicals that alter the normal function of hormones. Normally, our endocrine system releases hormones that signal different tissues telling them what to do. When chemicals from the outside get into our bodies, they have the ability to mimic our natural hormones; blocking or binding hormone receptors.


Xenoestrogens are a sub-category of the endocrine disruptor group that specifically have estrogen-like effects. Xenoestrogens are not biodegradable so, they are stored in our fat cells. The build-up of xenoestrogens have been indicated in many conditions including: breast, prostate and testicular cancer, obesity, infertility, endometriosis, early onset puberty, miscarriages and diabetes.


Guidelines to minimize your personal exposure to xenoestrogens:


Food

  • Avoid all pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.

  • Choose organic, locally-grown and in-season foods.

  • Avoid GMOs and products that contain them as maintream sodas, beers and cereals.

  • Buy hormone-free meats and dairy products to avoid hormones and pesticides.

Plastics

  • Reduce the use of plastics whenever possible.

  • Do not microwave food in plastic containers.

  • Avoid the use of plastic wrap to cover food for storing or microwaving.

  • Use glass or ceramics whenever possible to store food.

  • Do not leave plastic containers, especially your drinking water, in the sun.

  • If a plastic water container has heated up significantly, throw it away.

  • Don’t refill plastic water bottles.

  • Avoid water in plastic bottles and water with Chlorine.

Household Products

  • Use chemical-free, biodegradable laundry and household cleaning products.

  • Choose chlorine-free products and unbleached paper products (i.e. tampons, menstrual pads, toilet paper, paper towels, coffee filters).

  • Use a chlorine filter on showerheads and filter drinking water

Health and Beauty Products

  • Avoid creams and cosmetics that have toxic chemicals and estrogenic ingredients such as parabens and stearalkonium chloride.

  • Minimize your exposure to nail polish and nail polish removers.

  • Use naturally based fragrances, such as essential oils.

  • Use chemical-free soaps and toothpastes.

  • Read the labels on condoms and diaphragm gels.

  • Be aware of noxious gas such as from copiers and printers, carpets, fiberboards, and at the gas pump.



Natural Remedies


Before talking about the remedies let me recommend you to eat cruciferous vegetables to reduce the negative impact of the Xenoestrogens available in many products we consume. Cruciferous vegetables contain a compound called indole-3-carbinol, which our bodies metabolize upon digestion into diindolylmethane (DIM). DIM is well-known for supporting healthy hormone levels in both men and women.


One of the mechanisms by which this plant family can have a positive impact on health is by supporting the body in detoxification. There are different metabolites of estrogen in the body, some of which are more estrogenic and potentially harmful, while others are more protective. Higher intake of cruciferous vegetables has been observed to change estrogen metabolism, increasing the balance of forms of estrogen that can be beneficial for testosterone production, which is important for a healthy sex life in men.


DIM is available also in natural supplements. DIM works two ways. First, it blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogen. Second, it converts bad estrogens into good estrogen metabolites. DIM supplements are also used to help prevent prostate enlargement, treat acne, aid weight loss, and reduce premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopause symptoms.



6 - Increase your testosterone levels


Testosterone is your primary "sex drive hormone" which declines dramatically after the age of 25. Low testosterone can result from aging, chemotherapy, radiation treatments, some medications, injury or infection of the testicles, and certain diseases, such as chronic alcoholism and obstructive sleep apnea.


Effects of inadequate testosterone levels include low libido, erectile dysfunction, and in some cases, infertility. Since compounds in Tongkat ali may boost low testosterone, it could treat these issues.


A 1-month study in 76 older men with low testosterone found that taking 200 mg of Tongkat Ali extract per day significantly increased levels of this hormone to normal values in over 90% of participants.


7 - Balance your Sex hormone binding globulin


Elevated SHBG levels can result from diets low in protein, leading to decreased testosterone bioactivity and deleterious effects on sexual function, fertility, and bone density, as well as a higher incidence of certain cancers. Because SHBG regulates how much hormones are delivered to the body’s tissues, it is vital to ensure that your levels are in the normal range. For a man, that’s 10-57 nmol/L, and for a woman, it’s 18-144 nmol/L.


Low SHBG, meanwhile, tends to correlate with obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and hypothyroidism. Eating cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, curry kale, and bok choy serves to metabolize surplus estrogen and lower SHBG. Cortisol constricts the blood vessels in your penis. When blood can't flow properly to your penis, that's when you may have difficulty achieving an erection. Over time, chronic stress (chronically high cortisol levels) decreases the amount of testosterone your body makes.
